Evaluation 1

Title of the film:
Once we had chosen the genre of our piece, being drama, we then began to think of names we could call our piece. We wanted a title which was appropriate and popular towards teenagers. Soon after locating our plot and storyline we based everything around our title, so it all linked together. Our title is very original and once looked at by the audience they should be able to recognise what the film will be about and what genre it is. The title is 'Inevitable', this is very orginal as there is not a drama film out with this title, the title is very thorough and means it is bound to happen in the end.

Setting/ location:
Our setting and location was used at Daniel's house as we wanted the setting to be realistic so that it looks like a real life situation. Having our film filmed in a real life situation in the street and the house gave a very realistic and relative feel. In relation to the conventions of media and real media products, this is a crucial element of which a real film producer can obviously create, and by us having the permission in order to film at the home location we were able to create this realistic factor.

Costumes and props:
We didn't need many props or costumes as we wanted the piece to be realistic so we just used what the characters were already wearing and also introduced certain things when needed. We used beer bottles to create the natural teenage gathering home feeling.

Camera work and editing:
When we was filming we used a tripod to make our camera filming more steady and accurate so that our piece looked more effective. Also we used the cameras shake to use by when we followed Logan running down the road, we shook the camera so that the audience felt like they was there and following behind him. We also tried to add all the shots required, for example, the over the shoulder shot. When editing it took us a while as we added sound, special effects and many more useful effects to make our piece look better and create a better outcome.

Story and how the opening sets it up:
We decided that when we was filming we did not have to stick to our script or storyboard as the more of it that was improvised, the more realistic it began to look. The beginning of our piece is very calm and relaxed but as soon as Logan is introduced, the audience will know that something bad is going to happen due to the music and the change in atmosphere. The audience will then be left anxious and nervous, wanting to know what will happen next.

Genre and how the opening suggests it:
Our genre is drama, as i have said, this links closely towards our sound which is a very fast paced track as the tension is building up. The opening has lots of drinking and a bit of swearing which is what typical drama films have to represent the feel of the rough ends of reality in life. We chose the genre of drama as we feel we best suited to this and believe we could gain the most experience and realistic effects from this genre and also this is fun to act out and film drama genre films.

How characters are introduced:
The audience is instantly introduced to the group of boys in the house, which the whole piece is based around. we introduced them at the beginning so that straight from the start the audience knew who was who and what their meaning was. Half way through another boy is introduced, and this is done by using a big exaggerated entrance, showing the audience that he will be an important character.

Special effects:
We used many effects throughout our piece when we edited to get the best footage possible so that we could get the audience to pay attention and fix on. Also we added music in the background to create tension and set the tone and feeling of the characters, slow calm when things are going good. Fast when something is about to happen. This indicates to the audience that something exciting is about to occur.

Target Audience

As a group, we have decided that our chosen target audience should be teenagers as our film informs them about violence and alcohol as there is alot of this going on at the moment in society in which they can relate to. Also it s  a 15+ as some of the content is not suitable for people below this age, for example swearing and violence. Once we found out who our target audience was, we then could adapt our footage so that it became more appealing towards our specified age group. 

Audience Feedback Questionnaire

We produced a audience feedback questionnaire in which to find out what we could improve, 

to gain more and better marks and also what we need to do better if we was going to make

 another piece of a 2 minute footage. We found out what went well and what we need to improve,

 our audience which fillled out the questionnaires were told to be very honest in their answers so

 we get the best possible feedback that we could have got.

1. What would you rate our film out of 10? (10 being the highest)

As you can see from the results, six and seven are equal with 8 people voting this each and eight with four people voting this. This is good as it shows the film is in the top half of the rating marks but also this tells me that there is room for improvement to be made in the future.


2. Do you think our film has got everything required that a drama film should have?

Yes        Most things        Some things        No      

The results of this questions allows me to see that only 20% said yes, so there is some things missing, 30% said some things which is a good things as it shows us that we are on the right lines and not off the target of a drama piece, 50% with the biggest vote said most things, showing that only a couple of things are missing to make this drama piece complete.



3. Does our film have lots of different types of shots that should be included?

Yes        No        Only some, not all

These results, 80% of people do believe we covered all of the right shot types needed which is good as it tells me that a variety and correct techniques were used. With only 20% saying that i have some shots but not all, is good as this is a small percentage but i will have to ask what shots they believe are missing.

5. How bad was the camera shake? (10 being the worse)

With the scores being low and the highest being four, this tells me that the shake on the camera wasnt to bad, and that my filming was a success and a steady process. This was accomplished through using a tri pod for the camera to rest on. The majority of the feedback put '1' making this very positive.

6. Do you believe the use of background Music helped set the theme?

Yes       No       In some areas

This questions allows me and the group to see if the use of background music helped set the theme and create the atmosphere. from the results the 75% of people believed it did and it helped alot, a small percentage said it did not help and bigger than no but small than yes, people said it helped in some areas, telling us that music is a good idea but knowing when to use it is key.


7.  Is there anything we could improve to make Our film better in your opinion? please state.

Scenery Chosen

I have shot camera still shots of the scenery we have used to produce our media task. I have done this to explain and evaluate why we have chosen these areas and what happens at the different sceneries.

This is the entrance road to the house we have used to film the project. Jamie bikes down here to enter the house at the beginning and opening scene and then duncan runs down this road near the end of the film. We plan to use a long shot here to show either side of the main object. We chose to use this road and location as it gives enough time to make the audience know Logan is a enemy to the people already in the house and looks angry and shows he has a meaning to his entrance down the road.

This is the outside of the house with the view of the main front door. Jamie at the beginning knocks and enters through this door, in which we plan to shoot a over the shoulder shot of this. We also use this scene when Nick goes out for a cigarette and Logan then attacks him and also for the final scene and the majority of the project. This is a well thought of and good scene as it is very open and can be used for many purposes.

This is the living room, where Nick, Alex, Duncan, Daniel and Jamie sit and talk. This room has alot of space meaning that a lot of characters are able to fit in this room, creating more of an atmosphere. All of the characters meet and are gathered in here, drinking and chilling.

This is where the other the shoulder shot is recorded when Duncan opens the door to Jamie and invites him into the house. Jamie exchanges a drink and this corridor leads to the living room. This space is also used when Jamie, Duncan, Alex run out of the house and charge at Logan in one of the finishing scenes.

We used this scenery to film jamie pulling up to the house on his bike and when in the first scene he walked towards the door. We used it to enable more camera angles and shots to be shot.

StoryBoard

I created a story so myself and the group could see before hand doing the filming, what positions we will be taking up and what order the scenes will occur. This also gives us a good idea of how the project filming would turn out and what props and scenery we would need, this allowed us to film at a ideal place and enabled us to get everything in place, which meant no time wasting and no planning was needed to take place on the day of filming. Using the storyboard also meant that we knew when to start and stop filming at different scenes.

Audience Research Questionnaire Evaluation

Within our group we thought it would be a good idea to carry out a questionnaire in order to get opions on what features and techniques we could include in our 2 minute trailer. We handed out 20 questionnaires to mainly people in our drama group, but some from a wider range around whittlesey.



These are the results in chart form of our market research questionnaire, i also explain how the results are good for me and the group on how to end up with a project ourself.

Question 1. These result tells me that thoughout all the people i asked to fill out our questionnaire, the majority was 11-20 years old. this means that we will be creating our project margonily based on their input. And that from other results this age range is a good target as they are huge film watchers.

Question 2, How often do you visit the cinema, will enable myself to see how often people enjoy going to the cinema to go and see a new film being released. The majority of percent went with in every month. This is shown by a pie chart in which this is a good way to show the difference of people's results.

Question 3, What is your favourite Genre?, allows me to get a good idea of what type of people enjoy certain film types the most and this could help decide which genre my film will be. The Bar chart shows clearly that comedy is a huge favourite. This was a open question so any type of genre could of came up.

This question 4, Do you pay attention to age certifications or watch it regardless. from the results, allows me to see that even if we target a certain audience with a age restriction, many people from different ages will watch it and not be fazed by the age certificate.

Question 5, do you prefer films to start straight away or have some sort of build up?. Examines whether the audience prefer action straight away or for the film to be built up then action and happenings to occur. The results are near enough equal, with build up just having more votes.

Question 6, do you prefer rolling credits or for them just to appear. from the results tells me that by a small margin people prefer them just to appear. This could mean that the audience are more fixed on, to the film and don't really care what happens with the credits or they prefer the credits to be fixed making them clearer.

In Question Number 7, The pie chart shows the difference of  the amount of audience that wants a question to be asked or answered in the first scene. From this chart, I can tell that the audience want the question to be asked making the rest of the film to be resolved around this question. This tells me that the audience want a purpose and storyline in their film they are watching.

Question 8, is a narrator helpful to you ? Helps me to see if in my film i need a running commentary and narrator over the background or not. The results of this film the audience are equal with half liking a narrator and half not. This could be a advantage or disadvantage having a narrator in our project.

Question 9, allows me to see what current drama films the audience like and which films I could relate to , to make my project good. There was a wide variety of answers , showing that many films of this genre are around to compete with and compare with.

The final question, question 10 of my audience questionnaire allows me to find out what special and important qualities i need to add and what needs to be featured in my project for it to be good and like a drama film.  The most popular type of quality needed is drugs,sex and violence, with tension the least important.

Some questions were open so the answers could of occured, either with a variety of answers or unreliable results. The other Questions were closed and were multiple choice giving the audience a option of which one to choose.

Script

Boys inside drinking and smoking.


Duncan: That’s the door guys.


Duncan walks to the door.
Duncan answers the door and shakes jamies hand, with a beer in other.


Duncan: come in


Duncan: ite man, want a beer
jamie: cheers

Nick: alright jay


The boys chill and chat to each other.


Duncan: hey alex, throw us the bottle opener


alex throws Duncan the bottle opener and Duncan opens his beer.


jamie: yeah dunks


Duncan then throws the bottle opener to jamie.


Duncan: Alex, you told them about that time yesterday, when you smashed that guy
Alex: yeah guys, listen to this. Yesterday yeah, you know logan downes
Group: yeah!
Alex: his brother, banggg!
duncan: what about logan
The rest of the group look at him as they are scared of his brother and Alex knows this is what everyone else is thinking about.


Alex: I don’t care, ill bang him out
Group: wheyyy
Duncan: have you seen his brother though, he’s hench
Alex: I don’t care I can take anyone on
Nick: i've got a phone call.
logan is walking down road on the phone, on way to Duncan’s house


nick is standing outside. logan runs at him and attacks him.
nick limps over to a bench.

Duncan: oh my god that’s him, that’s his brother



the group come charging out the front doo towards logan. and start beating him up, suddenly they hear police sirens, they all run but logan manages to trip alex up, logan gets up...


Logan: you see, this is what happens.

A script was used to make sure all the lines ran fluently and everyone knew when to talk and what to say. Throughout the filming some lines may have changed and stuttering and paused were encountered but this could be seen as a good thing as this makes it more realistic as in real life not everything runs smoothly. Creating a script and producing it to the cast meant that no time was wasted, by not knowing what to say.
